The Blessed Virgin appeared to Sister Lucia again on December 10, 1925, at the convent of the Dorothean sisters in Pontevedra, Spain, with the Infant Jesus, saying:
“Look, my daughter, at my Heart surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce at every moment with blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, try to console me, and tell all those who [practice] the first Saturday [Devotion] I promise to assist at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls.
Our Lord told Sister Lucia the reason for five Saturdays: “My daughter, the reason is simple: there are five kinds of offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
While many do not want to heed Our Lady’s words at Fatima, her appeal is renewed in all those who bear the title of Mary’s Children.
The Heralds of the Gospel desire the immense grace of being counted among her children and authentic devotees.
For this reason, the Heralds of the Gospel have renewed the Devotion of the First Five Saturdays, as requested by the Blessed Virgin, every month for nearly twenty-five years. These devotions not only aim at making reparation for the offenses committed against Her, but also – in some way – “anticipate” the triumph of her Immaculate Heart.
Moreover and unique to the Heralds of the Gospel, a magnificent crowning of the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima takes place during the act of reparation of the First Saturdays. This ceremony is the initiative of Msgr. João Scognamiglio Clá Dias, founder of the Heralds of the Gospel.
This crowning seeks to represent the ceremony held in Heaven proclaiming Mary as Queen of all creation, awaiting the glorious day, promised by her to the three little shepherds, when her reign will be established over the face of the earth.
